It's been a cold long January. We are sorry we haven't posted in a while. Here are some fun pictures from our activities in late December and early January. Stay warm!

Columbus sailed the ocean blue in 1492.

We learned all about Christopher Columbus last week. We read about his travels across the Atlantic ocean in his three ships and mapped his route to find America.  Here are some pictures of us creating a special Columbus Day treat.  We had blue jello for the ocean.  We put 3 clementine slices on the jello - one for each of his three ships.  Then we made sails for our ships to mark the Nina, the Pinta and the Santa Maria.

Apples

We spent a fall week reading about apples, sharing our apple picking stories, and then sorting apples.  We realized that we could sort apples by color, size and type.

Morning fine motor warm up

When we arrive at school in the morning, we usually have some "free time" in the morning as we unpack and settle in.  Some mornings we do free reading on the rug.  Some mornings we do fine motor activities.  Here are some pictures of us exploring with pattern blocks.  We created some unusual pictures and patterns.

Check out our new literacy partners!

At the end of each Reading and Writing workshop we have partner time.  This is a time when we share our favorite part of a book we read, ask for help with tricky words or act out a really funny part together.  In writing, we will turn to our partners to ask for their help in sounding out words, adding details to our words or pictures or just to act as a sounding board for our ideas.  These are some pictures of us after we chose a cozy spot to work together.
